Alex Shahrestani speaking

The Technologist Behind the Keynotes

I started writing code more than 15 years ago—long before I ever thought about law school. My path took me through Philosophy and Computer Science studies, years of building software systems, and eventually into the emerging world of AI. By the time I entered legal practice, I had already spent seven years working hands-on with machine learning and AI technologies.

This sequence matters. Most lawyers learn about technology; I learned the law while already being a technologist. That perspective shapes everything I do—from how I analyze AI regulation to how I explain governance frameworks to audiences who need actionable insights, not abstract theory.

Today, I run Promise Legal PLLC, a technology law practice I founded in 2018, and I speak to corporate audiences about the intersection of AI, governance, and legal strategy. My talks draw on real experience building AI systems, navigating regulatory requirements, and helping organizations implement governance frameworks that actually work.

What distinguishes my keynotes is this dual fluency. I don't just describe what AI can do—I've built it. I don't just explain what regulators require—I help clients implement it. That combination transforms abstract compliance requirements into concrete action plans your team can execute.
